"505 - morphine not found" (morphine500)

Peugeot might not be back in the big luxo-barge business anytime soon, but all three of their plus-size offerings (604, 605 & 607) were interesting in one way or another. Ok, maybe not the 607. Anyhow, look what I made friends with today:
Our sources tell us this is a European-spec 1983 STI, so it has a 2.7 V6 with Bosch L-Jetronic, and that should be good for 144 HP. Backing it up is a ZF 3-speed automatic, which should fit this car to a tee, and of course the rear wheels are driven. Also, there’s a working air-con and loads of brown in the cockpit.
Is it lovely? Of course it is. And not just of wafting along either, this PRV-powered barge can shift, if you press hard enough on the loud pedal. The brakes were surprisingly effective too and the steering excellent. I read that contemporary road testers (this car launched 40 years ago, so some of these guys might not even live anymore) were raving about the steering feel and response, and I can see why.
Would I DD this old lady? Naturellment ! Wouldn’t you?

Nah, the 504 Diesel was their best work. In Europe the 600 series were known for being impossible to feed, unless you were rich. Besides I don’t buy automatics.

Love that Brown interior..and the rest of the dash, gauges seem so aesthetically pleasing. Must be a french thing.

Nice :) I like all these forgotted big cars like the 604, Alfa 6 and Lancia Gamma.
I bet you can pick them up for far less than they’re worth if you consider how damn good they are...

I have a “Sei” (Alfa 6) comming up this spring for testing. Together with a 1981 Quattroporte... Will need a nice black suit and some proper shades for the maffioso look :-)
Also, yes. Although the PRV sounds like shit compared to an XK engine, the driving experience of this big Peugeot is not unlike a Series III XJ. Very similar, if you ask me.

And they are super comfy too, old-school supple French seats. Even my 505 is sportier, because my seats come from the Turbo version....

I’m so jealous of the Alfa 6. I really want one :) ideally with a big-bore 3.5l V6...
